The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has suspended its Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr Robinson Ewor, over alleged anti-party activities and his reported alignment with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The party said Ewor’s actions and public statements were capable of undermining and destabilising the PDP in the state.
Ewor had recently accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of misleading party leaders and supporters during the political crisis in Rivers State. He claimed the governor gave the impression that he was prepared to challenge Wike’s influence but later abandoned the party at the height of the turmoil. Ewor further alleged that PDP stakeholders were left politically stranded when Fubara defected to the All Progressives Congress in December 2025.
His suspension followed reports that he was seen in the company of Wike during the minister’s ongoing “thank you” visits to local government areas across the state.
Announcing the decision after an emergency meeting of the Caretaker Committee in Port Harcourt on Saturday, the committee’s Secretary, Chief Ogbam Ojimah, said Ewor had been suspended both as chairman and as a member of the PDP.
Ojimah stated that Wike, who was recently expelled from the party, had no right to interfere in the affairs of the PDP in Rivers State. He added that the party had distanced itself from all statements and actions attributed to Ewor.
According to him, the committee resolved that Ewor, by associating with Wike and making public utterances contrary to party positions, had effectively relinquished his role. He stressed that party members and the public should no longer deal with Ewor in any official PDP capacity.
The committee subsequently appointed Ojimah as Acting Chairman of the PDP in Rivers State, while Dr Baribefu Fidunko was named Acting Secretary.
Ojimah reaffirmed the Rivers PDP’s loyalty to the national leadership of the party under its National Chairman, Dr Kabiru Turaki, and pledged the committee’s commitment to repositioning the party for effective opposition and future electoral contests in the state.
