United States forces have delivered what they described as “critical military supplies” to Nigeria, reinforcing ongoing security cooperation between both countries. The handover took place in Abuja.
The delivery was announced in a post on X by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which said the supplies were provided as part of continued collaboration with Nigeria.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja,” AFRICOM stated, noting that the support is intended to aid Nigeria’s current operations and highlight the shared security partnership between Washington and Abuja. The post also tagged the U.S. Mission in Nigeria.
The development underscores sustained military engagement between the two countries as Nigeria grapples with persistent security challenges across several regions.
In November 2025, the administration of President Bola Tinubu had appealed to the United States to deploy its military to assist Nigeria in combating terrorism in parts of the country. The appeal was made by the president’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, amid Nigeria’s rejection of its designation by the U.S. as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
The Nigerian government also dismissed remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump alleging widespread killings of Christians in Nigeria, following his decision to redesignate the country under the same classification. Trump had cited claims of genocide against Christians in Nigeria as the basis for the move.
The U.S. president later confirmed that American forces carried out airstrikes on terrorist locations in Sokoto State, in Nigeria’s North-West region.
