The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reiterated its capacity to meet Nigeria’s fuel needs, stating that it can supply volumes far exceeding the country’s estimated domestic consumption.

In a statement issued on Thursday night, the refinery said it is capable of supplying up to 75 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) daily, compared with Nigeria’s estimated daily consumption of about 50 million litres.

The company also disclosed that it can produce 25 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) daily, above the estimated national demand of 14 million litres, as well as 20 million litres of aviation fuel per day, significantly higher than the estimated maximum domestic requirement of four million litres.

According to the refinery, maintaining supply volumes above prevailing demand provides critical buffers that enhance market stability, reduce supply disruptions, and lessen Nigeria’s dependence on fuel imports, particularly during peak demand periods.

“The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery wishes to reaffirm our ability to supply petroleum products of the highest international quality standards to marketers and stakeholders—75 million litres of petrol, 25 million litres of diesel, and 20 million litres of aviation fuel daily,” the company stated in a public notice.

The refinery noted that excess supply capacity helps reduce the need for emergency imports, strengthens inventory coverage, and improves the resilience of the domestic fuel supply chain.

Dangote further reaffirmed its commitment to full regulatory compliance and ongoing collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, stressing that its operations are aligned with efforts to promote market stability and orderly downstream operations.

The company said it remains actively engaged with regulators and industry stakeholders in support of Nigeria’s energy security goals, as the country continues its shift from reliance on imported fuels to domestic refining.

It added that it is working closely with market participants to ensure that the benefits of local refining—such as reliable supply, competitive pricing, and improved market discipline—are consistently delivered to consumers nationwide.

“With expanding domestic refining capacity, Nigeria is increasingly positioned to reduce foreign exchange exposure, improve supply security, and strengthen downstream efficiency through locally refined petroleum products,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the refinery announced an increase in its gantry price for petrol from N699 to N799 per litre, making its price about N70 higher than the landing cost of imported PMS.

Following the adjustment, the refinery said MRS filling stations should sell petrol at N839 per litre. Checks confirmed that several filling stations immediately raised pump prices from N739 to N839 or higher.

Further findings showed that marketers who had completed payment and obtained loading approvals at N699 per litre were subsequently asked to pay the price difference to N799 per litre before loading, after the refinery withdrew its temporary festive price support and invalidated previously issued loading authorisations.
