No fewer than 14 journalists from different media organisations were involved in a road accident on Friday while covering the commissioning of projects by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Bauchi State.
The journalists were travelling with an NEDC delegation led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, for the handover of completed projects to the Bauchi State Government.
The accident occurred along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area, shortly after the delegation commissioned a Government Secondary School project in Yelwan Duguri.
Some of the journalists reportedly sustained serious injuries. They were first taken to the Yelwan Duguri Hospital for emergency treatment before being referred to the Bauchi General Hospital for further medical care.
Those injured include journalists from Channels Television, African Independent Television (AIT), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Arise Television, as well as other members of the Correspondents’ Chapel covering the event.
Members of the delegation included the Minister of State for Regional Development, the Chairman and Managing Director of the NEDC, the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, and other government officials.
Further details are expected.
