The Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Sheikh Abdullahi Pakistan, has resigned from office.
Western Post reported that the resignation was tendered late on Monday night.
Sheikh Pakistan was appointed in 2024 to succeed Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi. His resignation is believed to be the culmination of several controversies that marked his tenure, including allegations of incompetence, maladministration and corrupt practices.
He had faced intense criticism over what observers described as the poor handling of preparations for this year’s Hajj, a situation feared could prevent many intending pilgrims from participating in the annual pilgrimage.
A source within NAHCON, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Saudi authorities had set Monday, February 9, as the deadline for the submission and capture of pilgrims’ documentation.
“However, by that date, the details of most pilgrims, as well as those of medical and operational personnel, had not been captured due to delays in finalising the process under Chairman Pakistan,” the source said.
