U.S. Congressman Riley M. Moore has presented a report to the White House highlighting what he described as ongoing persecution and violence against Christians in Nigeria.
The presentation took place on February 23, 2026, and involved members of the House Appropriations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The report followed a bipartisan congressional investigation that included a fact-finding visit to Nigeria.
According to the findings, the report outlines increased extremist violence and recommends several actions by the United States government. These include the establishment of a U.S.–Nigeria security agreement, sanctions against individuals accused of violating religious freedoms, and coordinated efforts with international partners to strengthen protection for vulnerable communities.
In his remarks, Moore thanked President Donald Trump for redesignating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” under U.S. religious freedom laws. He stressed the need for Nigerian authorities to take decisive steps to protect Christian populations and address insecurity in affected regions.
Beyond the report, Moore’s recent financial disclosures show he raised $138,200 in the fourth quarter of 2025, with more than half coming from individual donors. He reported $49,300 in spending and $638,000 in cash on hand at the end of the filing period.
Moore, who represents West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, has also sponsored several bills in Congress, including the Jumpstart Savings Act and the Faithful Patriot Campaign Medal Act.
The report’s submission adds to ongoing U.S. policy discussions regarding religious freedom and security cooperation with Nigeria.
