The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Benin Region, has announced a month-long power outage affecting parts of Edo State due to ongoing work on the Benin–Ajaokuta 330kV transmission line.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN said the planned outage commenced on Friday, February 27, 2026, and will run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until March 31, 2026.
According to the company, the shutdown is necessary to allow contractors to continue restringing operations on the 330kV line linked to the Ihovbor Power Plant Turn-In/Turn-Out Transmission Substation.
As a result of the work, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to customers in UNIBEN, Oluku, Egba and Ihovbor for up to 10 hours each day throughout the duration of the project.
TCN explained that power supply will be restored daily after 6:00 p.m., when restringing activities are suspended. During that period, BEDC will off-take electricity from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the following day.
The company noted that the temporary interruptions are required because the transmission line traverses major highways along the Benin–Ajaokuta corridor. It added that relevant road safety agencies have been notified and will be on ground to ensure public safety during the construction period.
TCN apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience and assured that full bulk power supply to the distribution company will resume once the project is completed.
