US President Donald Trump on Saturday, February 28, announced that American and Israeli forces had commenced what he termed a “massive and ongoing operation” targeting Iran, cautioning Iranian soldiers to lay down their arms or risk severe consequences.
In an eight-minute address shared on Truth Social, Trump said the coordinated military action with Israel was designed to curb threats posed by Iran’s leadership to the United States and its allies.
“We are undertaking a massive and ongoing operation to prevent this very wicked, radical dictatorship from threatening America and our core national security interests,” the president stated.
The development follows weeks of rising tensions between Washington and Iran. Trump had intensified pressure on Tehran to accept a fresh nuclear agreement and had criticised the Iranian authorities over their response to domestic protests earlier in the year.
