The Federal Character Commissioner representing Oyo State, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring fairness, equity, and balanced representation for the state in federal appointments and opportunities.

Speaking at a press conference and inaugural meeting with staff of the Federal Character Commission in Oyo State, Aleshinloye said the commission would intensify efforts to ensure strict compliance with the federal character principle across federal ministries, departments, and agencies.

He noted that the commission, inaugurated on January 22, 2026, under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, had begun strengthening monitoring mechanisms to ensure fairness in recruitment, appointments, promotions, and the distribution of infrastructure and social amenities.

According to him, the Federal Character Commission was established in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution to promote equity and balanced representation among all states and ethnic groups in Nigeria.

“The mandate of the commission goes beyond employment opportunities. It also involves ensuring equitable distribution of infrastructure, social amenities, and national resources so that no section of the country feels marginalized,” he said.

Aleshinloye explained that the federal character principle remains a key pillar for promoting unity and national integration in Nigeria’s diverse society.

He said the commission would continue to engage relevant stakeholders and federal institutions to improve transparency and adherence to its guidelines, thereby strengthening public confidence in government institutions.

The commissioner also assured residents of Oyo State that their interests would be effectively represented at the national level.

“I want to assure the good people of Oyo State that their interests remain well represented at the commission. We are committed to ensuring that the state receives its fair share of federal opportunities while encouraging merit, competence, and professionalism in public service,” he said.

He called on federal institutions across the country to comply with the guidelines of the commission in order to promote justice, inclusiveness, and fairness in governance.

Addressing staff of the commission in the state, Aleshinloye urged them to remain professional and transparent in the discharge of their duties, stressing that effective monitoring and enforcement of federal character guidelines were critical to achieving the commission’s objectives.

He also commended the media for its role in promoting accountability and democratic governance.

Aleshinloye expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing him as Federal Character Commissioner representing Oyo State, pledging to carry out his responsibilities in line with the constitutional mandate of the commission.

He further urged Nigerians to remain committed to unity, peace, and fairness for the continued progress and prosperity of the country.
