Suspected bandits have abducted the Imam of Babanla, a local security guard, and the guard’s son along the Oke-Ode–Babanla Road in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to community sources, the incident occurred on Sunday night, heightening fears among residents over the growing insecurity in the area.
A source disclosed that the victims were travelling from Oke-Ode to Babanla when armed men intercepted them on the road and took them to an unknown location.
“They were heading from Oke-Ode to Babanla on Sunday night when the attackers ambushed them and kidnapped the Imam, a security guard, and his son identified as Fawas,” the source said.
The abduction of the cleric, who is regarded as a spiritual leader in Babanla, has caused anxiety among residents of the community. The identity of the local security operative abducted alongside the Imam and his son had not been fully confirmed as of the time of this report.
In a related development, suspected bandits reportedly attacked Ndeji village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State earlier in the weekend, abducting a housewife and her son during a late-night raid.
Community sources said the attackers stormed the village on Saturday night, forcibly taking the woman and her child from their home before escaping into the surrounding bush, leaving residents in panic.
