The Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Tuesday inaugurated the Accommodation and Transportation Committee for the upcoming national convention of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja.
The convention is scheduled to take place in Abuja from March 27 to 28, 2026, and is expected to draw thousands of delegates, party leaders, government officials and other invited guests from across Nigeria.
In a statement released by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, the committee was tasked with handling the logistics of accommodation and transportation for participants attending the event.
Umahi inaugurated the committee at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, urging members to begin preparations early to ensure a smooth and well-organised convention.
He noted that the success of major political gatherings largely depends on effective planning and coordination of logistics.
Umahi will lead the transportation component of the committee, while the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, heads the accommodation arm. Both units are expected to work closely together to manage key operational aspects of the convention.
According to the minister, the committee will oversee transportation planning, hotel arrangements, and the movement of delegates and special guests between airports, hotels and the convention venue.
“Our leaders and special guests must be properly accommodated, and transportation between hotels, airports and the convention venue must be carefully coordinated,” Umahi said, stressing that poor logistics could disrupt even well-planned events.
He expressed confidence in the committee members, noting that their experience and leadership positions within government and the party would help ensure a successful convention.
Umahi officially declared the committee inaugurated, adding that it would later be divided into separate transport and accommodation units.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the committee and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, said the composition of the committee shows the importance the party places on the convention’s success.
Represented by Aderemi Oseni, Dangiwa explained that the committee includes governors, ministers, senators and other senior party figures responsible for ensuring effective coordination of logistics.
He added that proper accommodation and transportation arrangements would enable delegates and party officials to fully participate in the convention’s political activities.
The APC national convention is one of the party’s most significant events, bringing together delegates from all states to discuss party policies, elect members of the National Working Committee and shape the political direction of the ruling party.
The gathering comes as the APC, which has governed Nigeria since 2015, seeks to strengthen internal structures and unity ahead of future elections. With the inauguration of the logistics committee, preparations for the convention have entered a crucial stage aimed at ensuring the event runs smoothly.
