The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has removed the state’s Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, from office with immediate effect as part of efforts to reform the state’s civil service.
The decision was announced in a statement released on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Tofa. According to the statement, the move is aimed at strengthening efficiency, discipline, and overall service delivery across government institutions in the state.
The statement explained that the action forms part of the administration’s broader plan to reposition the civil service for improved performance.
Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service for his contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavours.
Following the dismissal, the governor appointed Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, as Acting Head of Service pending the appointment of a substantive replacement.
The governor also directed Musa to formally hand over the responsibilities of the office to Maimota no later than Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The development comes amid political realignments in Kano State after Governor Yusuf recently defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress, a move that has reportedly prompted adjustments within the state’s political and administrative structures.
