President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Nigeria is gradually overcoming the economic difficulties faced at the start of his administration, noting that state governors are no longer taking bank loans to pay workers’ salaries.
The President made the remark on Monday while hosting religious and traditional leaders at an interfaith Iftar held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The event was disclosed in a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
Speaking about the nation’s economy, Tinubu said his government inherited a challenging financial situation but has been able to stabilise the economy through a series of ongoing reforms.
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve millions of Nigerians,” the President said. “All I can promise is that I will remain committed to carrying out my responsibilities faithfully.”
He stated that the country’s economy has begun to recover.
“I can report that the economy has turned the corner and is improving. Pensioners are gradually receiving relief, and we have saved Nigeria from bankruptcy,” Tinubu added.
The President also said the financial condition of state governments has improved considerably under his administration.
According to him, governors are no longer struggling to obtain bank loans in order to pay workers’ salaries.
Tinubu further assured citizens that the country would not allow forces of instability to threaten its unity and sovereignty. He emphasised the important role religious and traditional leaders play in fostering peace and strengthening social harmony across the nation.
