The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, on Saturday distributed food packages and cash gifts to more than 5,000 Muslim and Christian residents of Ibadan as part of activities marking the Ramadan and Lenten seasons.
Each beneficiary received food items including rice, beans, semovita, garri, maize and noodles, in addition to some cash support.
While presenting the packages, the monarch explained that the gesture was part of his commitment to giving back to society and supporting residents during the religious observances.
Represented by his wife, Rashidat Ladoja, the Olubadan noted that the initiative has been ongoing for about 20 years.
She explained that although the outreach had been carried out for many years, this was the first time it would be organised since Ladoja became the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
According to her, the number of beneficiaries increased this year compared to previous editions.
“Baba Ladoja has been doing this for about 20 years. However, this is the first time the programme is being held since he ascended the throne as the Olubadan. It is not different from what we have done before, except that the number of beneficiaries has increased,” she said.
She added that more than 5,000 people benefited from the programme this year, noting that last year’s distribution also reached about 5,000 residents.
Rashidat said the monarch has always prioritised the welfare of his people, recalling his service as a senator, former governor and now as the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
She also noted that both the Quran and the Bible encourage giving during periods such as Ramadan and Lent, adding that many Nigerians were also supporting others during the season.
