The Federal Government has announced Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Tuesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
In the statement, Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful on completing the period of fasting. He urged citizens to uphold the virtues emphasized during Ramadan, including love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.
The minister also encouraged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the country’s continued peace, unity, and prosperity. He reminded everyone to celebrate responsibly and to show kindness to the less privileged.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
Muslim communities across the country are expected to mark the holiday with prayers, family gatherings, and acts of charity.
