The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticised the administration of Bola Tinubu following a series of bombings in Maiduguri that reportedly killed at least 23 people and injured over 100 others.
In a statement released on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the opposition party described the attacks as further evidence of what it called the federal government’s failure to effectively tackle Nigeria’s worsening security situation.
The PDP stated that the incident highlights the inability of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to curb rising insecurity, despite earlier promises made during election campaigns.
According to the party, insecurity has not only persisted over the years but has also intensified, particularly in the country’s northeastern region. It added that the Maiduguri bombings are part of a broader pattern of violent incidents under the current administration.
The opposition party also accused the presidency of focusing more on political conflicts with opposition figures rather than addressing pressing security challenges affecting citizens.
While expressing condolences to the victims and their families, the PDP urged the federal government to move beyond what it described as mere rhetoric and adopt a more practical and inclusive strategy to combat insecurity. It recommended engaging key stakeholders, including community leaders, in a coordinated national response.
