A bitter dispute has broken out among members of the family of late former Oyo State Governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, over the control and ownership of at least 35 properties spread across Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Ghana.

Sources close to the matter say the conflict is centered on the sharing of the late politician’s vast estate, which includes a mix of residential buildings, commercial ventures, and large tracts of land. The disagreement has reportedly triggered intense internal wrangling among heirs.

The assets are located in key cities such as Ibadan, Lagos, and Abuja, as well as in parts of the UK and the US. Investigations indicate that the estate comprises luxury homes, hotels, filling stations, media outfits, farms, and financial institutions.

Notable properties include a residence on Oba Akinyele Avenue in Old Bodija, Ibadan; a five-star hotel in Ghana; multiple buildings in Ogbomoso; and prime real estate in highbrow areas of Abuja and Lagos, including Asokoro, Ikeja, Ikoyi, Surulere, and Oniru.

Other holdings include a guest house in Agodi GRA, Ibadan, plots of land in Aerodrome GRA and Samonda, as well as about 7,000 acres of land near the Ibadan Golf Club.

Commercial investments tied to the estate feature Eternal Mega Filling Station, TDB Filling Station, a NIPCO outlet, TDB Gas Plant, and Parrot FM in Ogbomoso, alongside warehouse and farm operations.

Abroad, the late governor is linked to properties in New York City and Essex, United Kingdom.

The estate also includes a 1,000-acre parcel in Ogbomoso earmarked for the proposed Alao-Akala College of Health Sciences and Umera Farms, as well as Olowolagba Microfinance Bank.

Sources say the lack of a clear and widely accepted sharing formula has worsened tensions, particularly over control of the most valuable assets. While efforts are ongoing to resolve the matter amicably, there are fears the dispute could lead to prolonged legal battles.

Meanwhile, an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has issued an order restraining Chief Oluwakemi Alao-Akala from selling or transferring any of the properties pending the outcome of a substantive suit.

The order followed an application for an interlocutory injunction filed by Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto, who is seeking judicial intervention in the management of the estate.

The court also barred all parties, including appointed executors and their representatives, from entering into transactions or joint ventures involving the late governor’s assets until the case is determined.
