Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently holding a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Gusau, Zamfara State.

Although the agenda has not been officially disclosed, the parley is expected to focus on pressing national issues, the party’s internal strategies, and preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The gathering is also anticipated to review plans for the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) convention, scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.

This meeting comes at a time of heightened political activity across the country, with major political parties already positioning themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle. For the PDP, which has been in opposition since 2015 after losing the presidency to the All Progressives Congress (APC), unity and internal cohesion remain critical challenges.

The November NEC convention is expected to play a key role in resolving factional disputes and laying the groundwork for the party’s 2027 campaign machinery.

Analysts say the choice of Zamfara for the meeting is symbolic, as the PDP controls only a few states in the northwest. Strengthening its foothold in the region is regarded as vital for rebuilding its national influence.

The PDP Governors’ Forum, which serves as a coordinating body for party governors, has historically played a significant role in shaping party policy and direction. Resolutions from its meetings often influence decisions at the national level, especially during periods of internal crisis.

As the meeting continues behind closed doors, both Nigerians and PDP supporters are awaiting the outcome and the official communique expected at its conclusion.
