A tragic road accident in the early hours of Monday has claimed the lives of at least 22 people, leaving 20 others injured, after a trailer carrying both passengers and cattle crashed along the Lapai–Lambata road in Niger State.

The ill-fated trailer was reportedly travelling from Kano to Lagos when the accident occurred around 3:00 a.m. According to eyewitnesses, most of the passengers on board were from Zamfara State and were journeying for commercial purposes.
The crash, which involved only the trailer, caused multiple fatalities at the scene, while the injured were swiftly rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Niger State, Aishat Saadu, said a total of 42 individuals were involved in the accident. She noted that 22 people were confirmed dead, while 20 others sustained various degrees of injuries.
“The lone crash occurred around 0300hrs along the Lapai–Lambata route. It involved a trailer travelling from Kano to Lagos. The injured victims have been taken to FMC Lambata, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital in Suleja,” Saadu stated.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the authorities.
