The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced that Julius Malema, leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), will deliver the keynote address at its 2025 Annual General Conference scheduled to hold in Enugu.

The week-long event, themed “Stand Out, Stand Tall,” will run from August 22 to 29 at the International Conference Centre, bringing together lawyers, policymakers, and thought leaders to deliberate on the future of the legal profession, governance, and accountability.
Malema, a prominent voice in African politics, is widely recognised for his advocacy on economic justice, Pan-Africanism, and social transformation. His address is expected to spark critical conversations around leadership, the rule of law, and the pursuit of equitable societies.
The NBA first announced his selection as keynote speaker in March. Despite a history of political controversies—including his expulsion from South Africa’s ruling African National Congress in 2012, convictions for hate speech, and past corruption charges—Malema has remained a powerful and charismatic figure, especially among Africa’s youth and marginalised groups.
As the leader of the EFF, he has consistently pushed for policies aimed at reducing inequality and restructuring South Africa’s economy. His uncompromising positions and radical style have made him one of the most influential political voices on the continent.
His presence at the Enugu conference is expected to highlight the intersection of law, politics, and governance while inspiring bold leadership within and beyond the legal community.
