The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, September 1, 2025, in observance of Labour Day, a U.S. federal holiday.

The mission announced the closure in a statement posted on its official X handle on Sunday morning.

Labour Day, celebrated on the first Monday of September, honours the contributions and achievements of American workers and the labour movement.

According to the embassy, all routine consular services will be unavailable during the holiday. However, individuals with urgent consular needs are advised to visit the U.S. Mission’s website for emergency contact information.

Normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The closure aligns with the U.S. government’s tradition of observing national holidays, which form an integral part of American culture and heritage.
