The Kaduna State chapter of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) has resumed its indefinite strike, citing the state government’s failure to fulfill agreements reached earlier this year.
The doctors had initially embarked on the strike in June 2025 but suspended it after granting the government a two-month grace period to address outstanding issues. That grace period expired on August 5, with the association extending an additional three weeks to allow the government more time. However, no progress was made before the final deadline of August 31.

In a statement signed by ARD Kaduna President, Dr. Richard Daniel, and General Secretary, Dr. Yahaya Abdullahi, the association confirmed that the strike took effect at midnight on Sunday.
“The Association of Resident Doctors, Kaduna State, hereby announces the resumption of its indefinite strike as resolved by the congress. This decision follows the government’s failure to honor commitments, including the full implementation of the 100% Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) 2024 and other welfare demands,” the statement read.
The doctors explained that despite earlier concessions, such as continuing work beyond the August 5 deadline, the government failed to reflect any adjustments in the August salary payments, leaving them with no alternative but to withdraw their services.
Earlier in the month, the ARD chapter at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital had issued a 12-day strike notice, demanding full payment of CONMESS 2024 alongside two months’ arrears. Its president, Dr. Josiah Yakubu, said members had unanimously agreed to press ahead after repeated unfulfilled promises from the state authorities.
With the strike now in force, health services across Kaduna State are expected to be severely disrupted unless urgent steps are taken to resolve the dispute.
