The Kwara State government has announced the temporary relocation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp from Yikpata in Edu Local Government Area to the Kwara State Polytechnic campus along Old Jebba Road, Ilorin, following escalating security concerns.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Joshua Onifade, disclosed this at a press briefing in Ilorin on Thursday. He said the decision was made to ensure the safety of prospective corps members, particularly those coming to the state for the first time.

“The NYSC management deeply appreciates the efforts of the state government and security agencies in addressing insecurity in some parts of the state,” Onifade said. “Relocating the camp is a proactive step to allay fears and guarantee the safety of our corps members.”

He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritizing the welfare of corps members and acting swiftly in response to the security situation.

The 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 orientation course is scheduled to commence nationwide on Wednesday, September 24, with about 1,800 corps members expected to participate in the 21-day exercise in Kwara State.

The move comes amid a series of attacks by armed bandits in parts of the state. Earlier this week, SaharaReporters reported that gunmen killed a vigilante commander identified as Tetengi in Kakafu village, Lade District, Patigi Local Government Area. The attackers reportedly invaded the community at about 10 p.m., shooting indiscriminately and allegedly abducting some residents.

Community members have since called on the government to deploy more security personnel to curb the rising wave of banditry in the area.
