Electricity supply to parts of Kaduna South has been disrupted after a transmission tower collapsed in Rigasa Community on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed that Tower No. 7 along the Kaduna Town Line I and II went down following a combination of severe rainfall, strong winds, and vandalism.
In a statement issued Saturday, TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah said engineers discovered that vandals had removed key components of the tower, weakening its structure and making it vulnerable to the storm.
The incident cut power to several Kaduna Electric load centres, affecting communities in Kaduna South. However, areas such as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North were not impacted.
To reduce the blackout’s impact, TCN has directed the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) to connect the 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder to restore supply to customers in Mogadishu.
“Our engineers are already on-site dismantling the collapsed structure and preparing to rebuild a new tower,” Mbah said. “We sincerely apologise to affected residents and appreciate their patience as we work to restore full power as quickly as possible.”
TCN assured residents that every effort is being made to minimise the outage duration.
