Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the Olubadan-designate, ahead of his coronation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland scheduled for Friday.
In a goodwill message issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo commended Ladoja’s ascension to the throne and urged him to approach his new role with humility, patience, divine wisdom, and tolerance.
“It is an exalted and responsible position to be the traditional ruler of all Ibadan people,” Obasanjo said. “It requires humility, patience, divine wisdom, tolerance, and counsel from wide and varied quarters to succeed.”
The former president advised the incoming monarch to separate politics from tradition in order to preserve the sanctity of the throne.
“Traditional rulership does not compete or conflict with political rulership,” Obasanjo added. “I wish you the grace, guidance, and direction of Almighty God as you begin this new chapter.”
Ladoja’s Historic Coronation
The Olubadan-in-Council had in August unanimously endorsed Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan and highest-ranking chief in the civil line, as the next Olubadan following the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7, 2025.
His coronation will be attended by President Bola Tinubu, prominent Yoruba monarchs, political leaders, captains of industry, and thousands of Ibadan indigenes who will gather to celebrate the new custodian of the ancient city’s traditions.
