Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is poised to remain in power in the state beyond 2027 and reclaim Nigeria’s presidency in the next general elections.
Makinde made this known on Monday during the PDP State Congress held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan. At the congress, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro was re-elected as State Chairman, while Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke emerged as Deputy Chairman, alongside 37 other executive members.

The governor attributed the party’s strength to its adherence to internal democracy and the peaceful conduct of its congresses. He charged the new leadership to work towards securing the PDP’s victory at all levels of the 2027 elections.

“This exercise is to ensure that PDP continues to remain in power in Oyo State beyond 2027. The executives emerging from this process have a clear mandate — to deliver PDP victories from the councillorship to the presidential level,” Makinde stated.
Senator Austin Akobundu, Chairman of the Congress Electoral Panel, commended Makinde’s leadership, describing Oyo PDP as one of the strongest chapters in Nigeria. He noted that the party had recorded remarkable growth under the governor’s watch and expressed optimism about its chances in 2027.
The congress was attended by key party leaders, including PDP National Deputy Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja; former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu; Senator Gbenga Babalola; and former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the exercise, which also had in attendance Oyo Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, lawmakers at state and national levels, and party delegates from across the 33 local government areas.
