President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of new chief executives for three federal agencies as part of efforts to strengthen institutions and improve service delivery.
The announcement, made in a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, introduced the new appointees and their mandates.
At the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), Bello Bwari, a town planner and former federal lawmaker from Niger State, has been named Director-General. His appointment, which runs for an initial four years effective September 18, 2025, aligns with the NBMA Act, 2015. The agency regulates biotechnology products, including genetically modified crops, to ensure safety for Nigerians and the environment.
Bwari, an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, previously served as a Chief Whip in the House of Representatives, representing Suleja/Gurara/Tafa Federal Constituency. He also worked in the Niger State civil service and private consultancy before entering politics.
In the financial sector, Barrister Aminu Junaidu, a former Attorney-General of Zamfara State, was appointed Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Investment and Securities Tribunal for a five-year term, effective September 18, 2025. The tribunal is responsible for resolving disputes in Nigeria’s capital market and boosting investor confidence.
For the tourism industry, Olayiwola Awakan, a lecturer and former Deputy Provost at the Federal College of Freshwater Fisheries Technology, Baga, was named Director-General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC). His four-year tenure began on September 2, 2025. The NTDC promotes Nigeria’s cultural heritage and tourist destinations.
According to Imohiosen, the appointments reflect President Tinubu’s determination to “strengthen key sectors and institutions in Nigeria.” He added that the President expects the new appointees to deploy their expertise in advancing the growth of their respective agencies.
