The Police Service Commission (PSC) has introduced a whistleblowing policy aimed at exposing corruption, bribery, sexual harassment, and other malpractices in the recruitment process of the Nigeria Police Force.
Announcing the initiative on Thursday, the Commission warned that entrenched corruption in police recruitment had for years deprived qualified Nigerians of opportunities to serve while enriching corrupt officials and middlemen.
The PSC urged citizens to report cases of bribery, falsification of documents, sexual exploitation, result manipulation, and the inclusion of “ghost” names during recruitment exercises. Other offences listed include impersonation during screening and any form of unethical conduct.
“Our objective is to guarantee transparency, fairness, and merit in all recruitment exercises because a compromised process only produces compromised police officers,” the Commission stated.
It added that the whistleblowing policy aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that restoring credibility in the Nigeria Police is critical to strengthening national security and upholding the rule of law.
The PSC pledged full protection for whistleblowers against victimisation, intimidation, or retaliation, in line with Nigerian laws. “All reports will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” it assured, while warning corrupt officials that the era of impunity in recruitment was over.
For complaints, the Commission provided hotlines — 08065265651, 08059544355, 09159329404, and 08035866677 — and advised citizens to include details such as the incident, location, date, and persons involved.
“Every credible report will be promptly and independently investigated, and decisive disciplinary and legal actions will be taken against offenders,” the Commission said, urging Nigerians to participate actively.
“Your courage can make the difference,” it concluded.
