Armed terrorists in Nigeria have once again showcased their defiance of government and security agencies by releasing a viral video in which they openly displayed ransom money allegedly collected from kidnap victims.
The footage, uploaded this week by a notorious terrorist commander identified as Dangata Abba, shows him and his heavily armed fighters flaunting bundles of cash said to be ransom payments. The video has since spread widely across social media platforms, amassing over 600,000 views, 14,700 likes, and more than 400 comments, according to checks by SaharaReporters.
The development underscores the persistence of terrorism and banditry in the country despite repeated government promises to end the menace. By parading ransom money, the armed groups continue to taunt state authorities while instilling fear among ordinary Nigerians.
This is not the first time terrorists have used social media to publicize their activities. In July, SaharaReporters detailed how a terrorist in Kwara State hijacked the TikTok account of an abducted victim—a popular Point of Sale (POS) operator known as Yman—and posted videos from his forest hideout. The victim had been kidnapped in late June 2025 along with others from Kwara North communities.
After his abduction, the kidnappers reportedly used his WhatsApp account to issue ransom demands and send disturbing updates to his family members, further deepening their trauma.
Observers say the brazen use of social media by terrorist groups reflects both the scale of insecurity in Nigeria and the failure of authorities to decisively tackle the crisis, as citizens continue to live under the shadow of fear.
