The Lagos State Government has again re-arraigned the convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, on fresh charges of murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
Evans and his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, appeared before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos High Court on Monday, where they both pleaded not guilty to the five-count amended charge.
According to the prosecution, the duo allegedly killed two police officers—Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi—on August 27, 2013, around 10 p.m. at Festac Town, Lagos. The offences, the state noted, contravene Section 221 of the Lagos Criminal Law, 2011.
The case, which was transferred from Justice Adenike Coker, resumed with State Prosecutor A. O. Azeez confirming the handover and seeking a fresh arraignment, despite Evans’ previous plea bargain applications before the former trial judge.
Following the defendants’ plea, Justice Ogala adjourned the matter to November 19, 2025, for hearing and issuance of witness summons.
Evans, already serving multiple prison sentences from previous convictions, still faces several other pending criminal trials.
