Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a 10 per cent discount on Eko Rice and Eko Rice Classic as part of activities marking the 2025 World Food Day celebration in the state.
According to a statement released on the Lagos State Government’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the initiative—tagged “Mr. Governor’s Eko Rice Special Discount for World Food Day”—will take place on Thursday at the Police College Parade Ground, Ikeja.
“In celebration of World Food Day, Mr. Governor is offering a special 10% discount on the sale of Eko Rice. Join us to celebrate food systems and enjoy high-quality Lagos-produced rice at an affordable price,” the post read.
The discount initiative is part of a week-long series of events organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, led by Commissioner Abisola Olusanya, to commemorate World Food Day.
Olusanya noted that despite Lagos not being a predominantly agrarian state, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration has made significant strides in agricultural innovation and food production.
“People don’t see Lagos as an agrarian state, but under Governor Sanwo-Olu, we’ve made impressive progress. We also want to encourage the younger generation to take ownership of the agriculture space and celebrate our stakeholders who ensure food availability,” she said.
This year’s World Food Day theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,” emphasizes the importance of collaboration in transforming agro-food systems and promoting healthier diets.
Olusanya added that the state’s five-year Agricultural and Food Systems Roadmap aims to achieve 40 per cent food self-sufficiency by 2025 through innovative programmes and partnerships.
The celebration will climax on Thursday with an exhibition and sales fair at the Police College Parade Ground, Ikeja, where residents can purchase Eko Rice and other local produce at discounted prices.
