At least nine people have been confirmed dead and several others abducted following coordinated attacks by armed bandits on communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Residents said the assailants struck on Thursday evening, storming Layin Danauta village in Kuyello Ward around 6:30 p.m. and blocking all entry and exit routes before opening fire indiscriminately.
A resident of Birnin Gwari town described the assault as “a well-coordinated and terrifying operation,” noting that the attackers appeared organized and heavily armed.
“By the time they retreated around 7 p.m., we had recovered nine bodies, while about 13 injured people were rushed to the hospital,” another local source said.
Several villagers, including women and children, were reportedly abducted during the attack, though the exact number of those missing remains unclear.
Community members suspended further search operations Thursday night due to darkness and fears that the attackers might still be in the area. Recovery efforts were expected to continue Friday morning.
The deceased are to be buried later today, either before or shortly after the Friday congregational prayers.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
