Oshiomhole Under Fire Over N222m Classroom Project Without Desks or Chairs in Edo

A civic group, Monitoring Initiative for Transparency in Governance (MonITNG), has criticised Senator Adams Oshiomhole over the commissioning of a N222 million classroom project in Edo State that reportedly lacks basic furniture for students.

According to MonITNG’s report released on Monday, October 20, 2025, the project—coded ZIP20240448—was executed under the Federal Polytechnic Auchi and supervised by the Federal Ministry of Education. The contract was awarded to Sam Sedi Nigeria Limited.

The watchdog described the project at Ojah Comprehensive High School in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area as “deceptive,” alleging that despite the hefty sum spent, the classrooms were commissioned without desks, chairs, or proper finishing.

“How does a project worth N222 million result in pupils sitting on bare floors?” the organisation queried. “There was no landscaping, no drainage, and the finishing was substandard.”

MonITNG condemned the commissioning as a waste of public funds, arguing that the structures were “empty shells” and “symbols of misplaced priorities.”

The group also linked the contractor, Sam Sedi Nigeria Limited, to other controversial or abandoned projects in Edo State, including the N200 million Warake–Ivbiaro Road project in Owan East and an agricultural empowerment programme in Etsako communities—both reportedly tied to Senator Oshiomhole.

“A clear pattern is emerging—overpriced contracts, poor execution, and lack of accountability,” the report stated. “Public money should improve lives, not fund photo opportunities.”

MonITNG urged the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the project, its procurement process, and the contractor’s record.

“If N222 million was truly released, then the students of Ojah Comprehensive High School deserve classrooms with dignity—complete with desks and chairs,” the group said.

The organisation also accused Senator Oshiomhole and Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, of politicising constituency projects in Edo North through selective “empowerment” programmes that allegedly favour party loyalists.

MonITNG insisted that constituency funds are public resources, not personal largesse. “Ordinary citizens who are not party members are being excluded from the benefits of government projects,” it noted.

The group concluded by calling for transparency, accountability, and a reassessment of how constituency projects are conceived and executed across the state.
