President Bola Tinubu has approved a major reshuffle in the Nigerian Armed Forces, appointing new Service Chiefs in a bid to reinforce the nation’s security framework.
According to a statement released on Friday, October 24, 2025, by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, Tinubu appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), succeeding General Christopher Musa.
Other newly appointed military leaders include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. Meanwhile, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye will continue to serve as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing CDS, General Musa, and other former Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” acknowledging their efforts toward safeguarding national security.
He urged the new Service Chiefs to uphold professionalism, unity, and vigilance within the Armed Forces, stressing that they must “justify the confidence reposed in them.”
The statement confirmed that all appointments take immediate effect.
