The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued two minors who were abducted in Tilden Fulani, Toro Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, confirming that the children — 12-year-old Halima Hamisu and her six-year-old brother, Mohammed Aliyu Hamisu — were kidnapped on Thursday, October 23, 2025, while waiting for their school bus.
According to Wakil, the children’s father, Aliyu Hamisu, had reported the incident to the Tilden Fulani Divisional Police Headquarters. Following the report, detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kisaba Rimamnyang, immediately launched an investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that an eyewitness saw a man pick up the children on a tricycle. Shortly after, the abductor contacted the family, demanding a ₦50 million ransom through a foreign phone number to avoid being traced. However, after negotiation, the amount was reduced to ₦1.2 million, to be delivered near Farmers Motors Junction in Bauchi.
Wakil said police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, cordoned off the area and arrested the suspect while attempting to collect the ransom.
Further investigation led officers to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, where the two children were safely rescued and reunited with their parents.
The suspect, identified as Abdulkarim Tasiu, a relative of the victims, confessed to the crime, alleging long-standing grievances against his uncle as his motive.
Motorcycle Theft Crackdown
In a separate development, the Bauchi State Police Command said it had intensified operations against rising cases of motorcycle theft across the state.
Acting on intelligence, the police and other security outfits arrested one Ibrahim Muhammad Rabiu of the Gwallaga area, found in possession of a suspected stolen Jincheng motorcycle worth ₦100,000 belonging to Mahmud Aliyu of Kobi Street, Bauchi. Rabiu reportedly confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing.
Similarly, police operatives apprehended Abdulrahman Ibrahim of the same Gwallaga area after he was caught with a stolen Haojue ladies’ motorcycle worth ₦250,000. The suspect admitted to stealing the bike with the intent to dismantle and sell it as scrap.
SP Wakil noted that both suspects are under investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of inquiries.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and theft, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
