Two people have been confirmed dead following an attack by suspected gunmen on Oriuzor community in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The spokesman of the Ebonyi State Police Command, Superintendent Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident to Channels Television on Monday.
Ukandu said the attack occurred on Saturday night, November 1, 2025. He identified the victims as a local barber, Ifeanyi Ogele, who was shot dead in his shop, and Obumneme Nweke, a commercial tricycle (Keke) operator killed nearby.
He noted that the police had begun a manhunt for the assailants, assuring residents that those responsible would be apprehended.
“For now, no arrest has been made, but our men are on their trail. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” Ukandu said.
In a separate incident, a commercial bus driver was brutally assaulted by suspected hoodlums in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Monday.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver was attacked for allegedly violating traffic rules. The assailants reportedly chased and beat him until he lost consciousness before fleeing the scene.
Ukandu disclosed that police officers swiftly intervened to prevent further chaos and arrested four suspects linked to the assault.
He added that the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention and is currently responding to treatment.
The police spokesman reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for both incidents, stressing that investigations were in progress to bring all perpetrators to book.
