Suspected Boko Haram fighters have carried out a deadly midnight attack on Kirchinga village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, the hometown of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, killing two Forest Guards and abducting another.

The assailants reportedly stormed the community between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, opening fire on operatives of the newly established Forest Guard unit. Two guards were killed on the spot, while a third was taken away to an unknown location.

Local residents identified the slain operatives as Njidda Maradi and Yuguda Abasaryu. Maradi is said to be survived by two wives and eight children.

According to eyewitnesses, residents immediately raised alarm and contacted security agencies, but the attackers fled before help could arrive. Some villagers claimed the terrorists had camped near a burial ground behind Maradi Primary School before launching the assault. Others alleged that security operatives later cited the difficult terrain as the reason for their delayed response.

“They came around 1 a.m. We called the soldiers, but before they arrived, two Forest Guards had been killed and one taken away,” a resident said.

Confirming the incident, the Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, acknowledged that an attack occurred in Kirchinga but stated that one person was killed and another injured.

However, residents insist that two guards were killed and one abducted, underscoring persistent discrepancies between official accounts and reports from affected communities in Nigeria’s conflict-ravaged Northeast.
