A coalition of prominent Nigerian politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has formally initiated the process of registering a new political party named the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

The Nigeria National Coalition Group, which is driving the effort, submitted its application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on June 19, 2025. INEC acknowledged receipt of the submission on Friday.
According to the application, signed by the group’s Protem National Chairman, Chief Akin A. Rickets, the ADA’s slogan is “Justice for All”. The submission included the party’s logo, constitution, manifesto, and flag.
“We have attached our logo, which explains the symbolism of our party colours and the maize motif. Also included is our manifesto, detailing our ideological foundation, and our constitution, which outlines our organizational structure, principles, and legal framework, in line with Sections 40 and 222 of the Nigerian Constitution and Section 75 of the 2022 Electoral Act,” the statement read.

Additional documents submitted include minutes of coalition meetings and a formal declaration of the party’s headquarters.
The move follows weeks of consultations among members of the coalition, who are unified in their opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Initially, the group considered merging with established parties such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). However, concerns about internal wrangling and unresolved legal disputes led to the decision to form a brand-new party.
A committee, chaired by former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, was tasked with assessing the best path forward. The committee eventually advised that a new platform would offer the coalition a clean slate and equal standing for all members.
Prominent figures backing the new party include Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Dr. Umar Ardo of the League of Northern Democrats, among others.
With the formation of the All Democratic Alliance now underway, Nigeria’s political landscape appears set for another major realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
