The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully aware of his political activities, including his efforts to mobilise support across party lines for the President’s 2027 re-election.
Wike made this known on Tuesday night during an appearance on Arise News’ Prime Time, where he explained that his political activities are not being conducted secretly.
“There is nothing that I do that I don’t tell Mr. President,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor, who remains a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he was working with politicians from different parties under what he described as a “Rainbow Coalition” in support of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid.
According to Wike, his support is specifically for President Tinubu and should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a political party.
He also dismissed suggestions that he should be answerable to APC governors, stressing that he remains independent of the party’s governors despite his support for the President.
“I’m not answerable to APC governors,” Wike stated.
Wike also defended his recent political activities in the Federal Capital Territory, including his 31-day commissioning tour of projects across the capital.
“If people fail to learn from other people, they don’t grow. I took 31 days to commission projects in the FCT and they are not happy,” he said.
Reacting to comments attributed to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and other APC governors, Wike questioned their political calculations concerning President Tinubu’s performance in the 2023 presidential election.
He noted that Tinubu secured less than 10 per cent of the presidential votes cast in Imo State in 2023, despite Uzodimma being governor of the state at the time.
Wike further argued that governors supporting Tinubu’s re-election could simultaneously support candidates of their respective political parties in other elections.
“The governors of Osun, Anambra and Abia States are supporting the President’s re-election. Won’t they still support the candidates of their parties in other elections? So where is the confusion?” he asked.
On Rivers State, Wike attributed what he described as the current political stability in the state to the activities of his “Rainbow Coalition.”
“Because of our rainbow coalition, we no longer have Rivers of blood. There is no litigation on party candidates in Rivers State, unlike Imo State,” he said.
Asked about Tinubu’s prospects in other parts of the South-South, Wike specifically mentioned Bayelsa State, claiming that members of the PDP in the state were working in support of the President.
“That can happen in Bayelsa State. The whole PDP there is working for the President,” he said.
Wike also expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure support in the Federal Capital Territory, declaring: “As I sit here today, I will tell you that the President will win in the FCT.”
