A delegation of the Nigeria Yoruba community in the diaspora has paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba Aderobiojo Ilufemiloye, the Oba of Itako, in the Republic of Benin. The visit, which took place as part of a broader initiative to foster unity among Yoruba traditional rulers across borders, aimed at building a harmonious and cooperative relationship between Yoruba Obas in Nigeria and those in Benin.

Leading the delegation was the President of the Nigeria Yoruba in Diaspora Association, Alhaji Mutiu Adisa Adelabu Olaoluwa. In his address, he commended Oba Aderobiojo Ilufemiloye for his unwavering dedication to preserving Yoruba cultural values and ensuring peace and stability in his domain. He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among Yoruba monarchs, regardless of national boundaries, highlighting that such unity would foster cultural preservation and mutual development.

“This visit is not just symbolic but strategic,” Alhaji Olaoluwa stated. “It is part of our well-structured program to reach out to all Yoruba Obas in Benin Republic and strengthen ties between them and their counterparts in Nigeria. We are committed to closing the gaps that exist and making the Yoruba race stronger, more united, and better organized as one big family.”
He added that this initiative is one phase in a long-term vision by the Nigeria Yoruba in Diaspora Association to create lasting bonds and shared platforms for cultural promotion, conflict resolution, and regional integration among Yoruba-speaking peoples across West Africa.
In his response, Oba Aderobiojo Ilufemiloye expressed his delight at the historic visit, describing it as a long-overdue gesture that aligns with his own vision of Yoruba unity. He welcomed the delegation warmly and stressed the need for Yoruba leaders—both traditional and community-based—to move beyond divisions and work together for collective progress.

“I appreciate this visit greatly,” the monarch said. “It is time we dismantle barriers and foster true brotherhood among Yoruba Obas, regardless of geographical locations. Our people look up to us for unity and guidance, and this step is timely and necessary.”
As part of the courtesy visit, the delegation presented a symbolic gift to Oba Itako, signifying respect and goodwill. In return, the monarch offered traditional blessings and tokens of appreciation to the guests.
The delegation included several prominent figures from the Nigeria Yoruba in Diaspora Association, such as:
Alhaji Babatunde Adebayo, Secretary
Oba Abdul Afeez Akinwale Akinropo, Chairman, Ibadan Chapter
Representatives from Saki and Ijesa zones
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the association
Secretary NIDO
Representatives from Chairman, Oyo and Ife Chapter, and other distinguished members.
The visit is expected to mark the beginning of deeper engagements between Yoruba leaders in Nigeria and Benin Republic, with more scheduled interactions and collaborations already in the pipeline.
