Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has confirmed the death of Mr Ridwan Oladipupo, a 300-level Agricultural Engineering student who was declared missing last week.

In a statement signed by Registrar Mrs Olayinka O. Balogun, the university said it learned unofficially that the student’s body had been discovered after he vanished from his off-campus residence on Lawyer Ahmed Street. Oladipupo was last seen on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, telling roommates he was stepping out to study but giving no further details of his destination.

The following day, the Divisional Police Officer of the Owode Division alerted the Acting Dean of Student Affairs to an unidentified corpse found in front of Nurudeen Grammar School along Under-G Road. Initial efforts by police and university officials to put a name to the victim failed, and the body was taken to the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital mortuary.

According to the university, identification did not come until Sunday, 29 June, when Oladipupo’s father visited the student’s hostel with a police officer in search of his son. As of Tuesday, LAUTECH said it had still not received a formal report from the bereaved family.

The case is now in the hands of the Nigeria Police Force, Owode Division, and the university has declined to comment further to avoid hindering the investigation. While LAUTECH operates a non-residential policy, the administration noted that it works closely with security agencies that conduct nightly patrols in student-dense neighbourhoods.

The university extended its condolences to Oladipupo’s family, friends and colleagues, and reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of all students.
