The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who was accused of impersonating the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.

Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charge on Monday following an application by the Federal Government, which said Adeyemi would be transferred to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for fresh arraignment.

The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, moved the application on behalf of the government.

Oyedepo informed the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and the charges initially instituted by the Inspector-General of Police.

According to him, the review revealed certain loopholes in the case, prompting the government to seek a different legal approach.

He explained that the alleged offences involving documents reportedly forged by Adeyemi while operating the purported agency fell within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.

The prosecution counsel further disclosed that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court, adding that Adeyemi would be arraigned again without delay.

He consequently urged the court to strike out the existing charge in accordance with the law.

Adeyemi’s lawyer, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application, paving the way for Justice Umar to strike out the case.

Adeyemi, 38, had been standing trial in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 alongside two other defendants over allegations bordering on conspiracy and forgery.

The two other defendants, identified only as Femi and Anu, were said to be at large, with their full names and whereabouts unknown.

The decision to strike out the charge clears the way for the Federal Government to pursue the allegations against Adeyemi before the FCT High Court, where he is expected to face a fresh arraignment.
