Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have neutralized a Boko Haram commander, identified as Amir Dumkei, along with five other insurgents during a fierce battle in the Lake Chad region.

The MNJTF spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, revealing that the operation took place after terrorists launched an attack on the MNJTF base at Koulfoua Island in the early hours of Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
“The ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists initiated their offensive but were met with superior firepower from MNJTF troops. Through intense artillery and coordinated bombardments, the terrorist commander and five others were eliminated, while the remaining fighters fled with gunshot wounds,” Osoba stated.
According to him, nine AK-47 rifles, three boats, and a large cache of ammunition were recovered during the operation. Troops are currently pursuing the fleeing insurgents and conducting clearance operations to secure the area.
The Force Commander of MNJTF, Major General Godwin Mutkut, commended the troops for their bravery and reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace in the Lake Chad region.
