Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has flagged off a ₦7.8 billion renovation, remodeling, and upgrading project for the Bauchi State House of Assembly complex. The announcement was made during an official ceremony on Tuesday, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Speaking at the event, Governor Mohammed stated that the project aims to ensure equitable treatment for all three arms of government. “The renovation, remodeling, and upgrading of the complex we are witnessing today is a case of equal and just treatment for all the three arms of government which constitute a tripod upon which the government rests,” he said.
He further emphasized the need to enhance the Assembly complex to reflect its importance and provide necessary facilities. The project, already 50% funded, has a projected completion timeline of 12 months.
Governor Mohammed also highlighted the collaborative relationship between the executive and legislative branches, describing it as pivotal to delivering democratic dividends.
In his remarks, Bauchi State House of Assembly Speaker Abubakar Suleiman praised the initiative, noting that the complex was originally built during the First Republic under Governor Abubakar Tatari-Ali. He expressed gratitude for the governor’s commitment to strengthening the state’s legislative infrastructure.
“This renovation signifies not only a physical upgrade but also a renewed dedication to transparency, efficiency, and service delivery to our constituents,” the Speaker added, urging all stakeholders to view the project as a shared investment in governance and the future.
Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Kaule, assured the public that the ministry would ensure timely and quality completion of the work.
Corruption Allegations Cast Shadow
While the governor pushes forward with the high-profile infrastructure project, his administration faces mounting corruption allegations.
Dr. Abubakar Ahmad, a lecturer at the Federal College of Horticulture in Gombe, was recently released from prison after a week-long detention, reportedly ordered by Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, the governor’s son. Ahmad had earlier been remanded for 21 days over allegations of defamation and criminal intimidation after sharing a video of Shamsuddeen dancing with his wife online.
