Residents of Ayegun Oleyo in Ibadan, Oyo State, have raised alarm over what they describe as a forceful takeover of their ancestral land by Adron Homes and Properties Limited, allegedly in defiance of a valid court injunction.
The aggrieved residents say the real estate company has continued to fence off and excavate parts of their land despite a subsisting court order restraining any development activity. Heavy machinery, including caterpillars, have reportedly been deployed to the site.
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, a community member alleged that Adron Homes arrived with armed thugs and some police officers to intimidate locals and carry out excavation work.
“We never sold any part of our land to Adron,” the resident stated. “We are the rightful owners of Agbaoke, Igbo Olowo. When we confronted them, they brought hooligans with guns. It felt like they came to kill us.”
Another resident reiterated concerns about safety, accusing the company of acting above the law. “There is a court injunction stopping them from doing anything on this land, yet they return with thugs and even some police operatives. We live in fear every day.”
The community is appealing to Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State Government for urgent intervention to prevent an escalation of the situation.
This case mirrors a similar report recently published by SaharaReporters about ongoing land-grabbing cases in Lagos. In that instance, despite a legal advisory from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in 2024 recommending criminal charges against six individuals involved in the illegal takeover of land valued at over ₦1.2 billion, no action has been taken.
A victim of the Lagos incident accused the police and state officials of shielding the perpetrators. “We’ve occupied that land in Egbeda for over 40 years. Now armed men and corrupt officers are being used to take it from us,” the victim said.
With multiple communities across Nigeria alleging systemic land grabbing involving real estate developers, compromised law enforcement, and disregard for judicial orders, calls for accountability and government action are growing louder.
