President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
A statement released on Thursday by the President’s spokesperson described Ramat as a 39-year-old electrical engineer and administrator, who also holds a PhD in Strategic Management. He is set to take over from the outgoing chairman, Sanusi Garba.

To ensure continuity in the commission’s leadership, President Tinubu has directed that Ramat immediately assume duties in an acting capacity pending his confirmation by the Senate, in accordance with legal provisions.
In addition to Ramat’s appointment, two other individuals were nominated to serve as commissioners on the NERC board. They are:
- Mr. Abubakar Yusuf – nominated as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, and
- Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun – nominated as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.
“All appointments are subject to Senate confirmation,” the presidency noted.
President Tinubu urged the appointees to bring their expertise and experience to bear in driving reforms and improving efficiency in Nigeria’s power sector, in line with his administration’s energy sector vision.
