Omoyele Sowore, the human rights activist and former presidential candidate, has regained his freedom after being detained for two days by the Nigerian police. The activist confirmed his release on Friday evening and expressed his appreciation to supporters who rallied behind him during the period.

Sowore, who has long been a vocal critic of the Nigerian government, shared his relief on social media, stating, “The Nigeria Police Force has succumbed to the demands of the revolutionary movement. I’ve been released from this unjust, illegal, and unwarranted detention. While this is not a cause for celebration, I thank everyone who did not give up on me! #RevolutionNow.”
This recent detention, which stemmed from his #RevolutionNow campaign advocating for political and economic reforms, sparked outrage among human rights organizations and civil society activists. They denounced the move as an attack on free speech and civic rights.
Sowore, who has been arrested multiple times for his activism, acknowledged the efforts of those who campaigned for his release, including prominent figures such as human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and ex-presidential candidate Peter Obi.
