Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarawa West in the 10th Senate, has announced his decision to leave the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection was disclosed on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Although Wadada has yet to make a formal declaration in the Senate, he stated that he already considers himself an APC member.

Wadada clarified that his departure was not due to any grievances with the SDP, which he still respects, but rather due to “current happenings” that make his continued stay in the party untenable.

“The SDP has not offended me. I am proud of the party, but the dynamics of life require change. Just as I once moved from APC to SDP, I am now back to APC,” he said.

The senator dismissed the viability of the opposition coalition that has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 presidential race, asserting that no contender can outperform Tinubu.

“I have not seen anyone among them who can do better than President Tinubu. Between now and 2031, the political space is already taken,” he declared, questioning whether any opposition figure would have the courage to reverse Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidy.
