In a rare gesture of religious inclusivity, the Katsina State Government has enlisted Christian clerics in its peacebuilding efforts, approving monthly stipends for pastors across the state to encourage sustained prayers for stability and development.
The initiative, announced by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Katsina, also includes the approval of new recruitment for Christian Religious Studies (CRS) teachers in public schools — a long-requested demand by the Christian community.
In a statement signed by CAN Secretary Dr. Musa Daniel Danladi on behalf of State Chairman Very Rev. Fr. Richard Shuaibu Liti, the association praised Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda for the “landmark” move, describing it as a step towards moral upliftment and religious harmony.
Dr. Musa noted that employing CRS teachers would boost the academic performance of Christian students while instilling strong moral values. He expressed hope that the stipends for pastors would motivate continuous intercession for peace and endure beyond the governor’s tenure.
CAN urged qualified Christians in the state to apply online for the CRS teaching positions, emphasizing their role in shaping the moral and academic growth of the next generation.
