The Students’ Union of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has appealed to Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to urgently intervene in the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), AAUA chapter.

In a statement personally signed by the Students’ Union President, Comrade Salami Akeem (Ologbon), the body expressed worry over the prolonged industrial action, stressing that it has left both lecturers and students in uncertainty.

“It is no longer news that ASUU-AAUA has been on strike for weeks due to unpaid salaries, allowances, and welfare concerns,” Akeem said, accusing the government of neglecting the institution.

He warned that the continued standoff could have long-term effects on the university’s reputation and the academic future of thousands of students. “The university community, once a paragon of academic excellence, now faces disruption that may compromise its future if urgent action is not taken,” he cautioned.

The students’ leader commended the lecturers for their patience despite months of unpaid entitlements, but urged the government to act swiftly to preserve the academic calendar. “Their welfare is their right and the cornerstone of quality education. An injury to one is an injury to all,” he added.

The AAUA ASUU chapter had declared strike on August 21, 2025, after a congress resolution directing members to withdraw their services until outstanding arrears are settled. In their statement, the branch Chairperson, Boluwaji Oshodi, and Secretary, Olusegun Taiwo, maintained that lecturers could no longer endure neglect of their welfare.

Both students and lecturers now await the state government’s next move as the crisis stalls academic activities on campus.
